Canada and Saskatchewan Student Grants

When you apply for Saskatchewan Student Aid, you will be automatically considered for grants from both the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan. Grant amounts are calculated based on your number of weeks of study and your family income.

Grants do not need to be paid back except in specific circumstances.

1. Grants for Full-Time Students

Full-time post-secondary students may be eligible for grants to help fund their education. Grant amounts are dependent on family income and size, and the amount a student is eligible for will decrease as their income increases.

Students may be eligible for multiple grants depending on eligibility. Students will be automatically considered for the following grants when they apply for Full-time Saskatchewan Student Aid.

Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students

The Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students provides eligible students with up to $525 per month of study (equivalent to $4,200 per 8-month academic year).

Saskatchewan Student Grant for Full-Time Students

The Saskatchewan Student Grant for Full-Time Student offers eligible students up to $125 per month of study (equivalent to $1,000 per 8-month academic year).

Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependants

The Canada Student Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependants offers eligible students with dependants under 12 years of age, or over 12 years of age with a permanent disability, up to $280 per month of study for each dependant (equivalent to $2,240 per 8-month academic year, per dependant).

Saskatchewan Student Grant for Low-Income Students with Dependants 

The Saskatchewan Student Grant for Full-Time Students with Dependent Children offers eligible students with dependants under 12 years of age, or over 12 years of age with a permanent disability, up to $120 per month of study for each dependant (equivalent to $950 per 8-month academic year, per dependant).

The amount of the grant will not be more than your assessed need.

Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Students with Dependent Children

The Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Students with Dependants offers eligible students with dependants under 12 years of age, or over 12 years of age with a permanent disability, with grant funding based on family size.

  • Students with up to two dependants may be eligible for up to $56 per week of study, up to a maximum of $2,688 per loan year.
  • Students with three or more dependants may be eligible for up to $86 per week, up to a maximum of $2,688 per loan year.

The amount of the grant will not be more than your assessed need.

Saskatchewan Student Grant for Part-Time Students

The Saskatchewan Student Grant for Part-Time Students offers eligible students with up to $800 per academic year.

3. Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities may be eligible for additional grants to help fund their education.

Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities

The Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities offers eligible full-time or part-time students with $2,800 per school year to assist with educational or living costs. Students are automatically considered for this grant when they apply for Full-time or Part-time Saskatchewan Student Aid.

Canada-Saskatchewan Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities

The Canada-Saskatchewan Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities provides eligible students with up to $22,000 per program year. This includes $20,000 for the Canada grant and up to $2,000 for the Saskatchewan grant. Examples of eligible services and equipment include tutors, interpreters, computer software and specialized transportation. Students must fill out a separate application for this grant.
