Repaying Your Student Loan

Did you know that Saskatchewan Student Loans are interest-free and payment-free while you are studying? Student loans remain payment-free until six months after you graduate.

Planning for Repayment

Once you have completed your studies, it is time to start planning for repayment.

Please note: If you discontinue your studies, it is your responsibility to:

  • contact your institution regarding a tuition refund; and
  • repay your student loans.

Discontinuing your studies may result in your grant funding becoming repayable, meaning it will be added to your outstanding loan balance.

The repayment period for your student loan will begin six months after you have graduated or discontinued your studies. During that six-month period:

  • interest will accrue on the provincial portion of you loan and will be added to your outstanding balance; and
  • you will receive your repayment notice online in your National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) secure portal. Your notice will outline the terms of your repayment and your payment amount.

Repayment Options

Everyone’s circumstances are different and there are options available to customize your student loan repayment to fit your needs. Some options include:

Before making any changes to your repayment plan, use the Loan Repayment Estimator to compare different options and choose the one that works best for you.

To make changes to your student loan repayment, log in to your NSLSC account. If you are a part-time student, please contact the NSLSC directly to change your monthly payments.
